About Our Lab

The AQUALENS Lab serves as a dynamic hub for advancing nutrition-sensitive aquaculture, sustainable fisheries technologies, and innovative aquatic food solutions. Rooted in science and guided by sustainability, our lab combines interdisciplinary research, field experimentation, and community engagement to address real-world challenges in aquatic food systems.

Our Vision

To be a leading platform in advancing nutrition-sensitive and sustainable aquaculture, contributing to food and nutrition security, environmental stewardship, and inclusive blue economy growth in Bangladesh and beyond

Our Mission

At Aqualens, our mission is to:

  • Develop and promote innovative, low-cost, and climate-resilient aquaculture techniques that align with both human nutrition and environmental sustainability.
  • Bridge science, technology, and grassroots practice to empower communities, particularly small-scale farmers and youth, in building resilient aquatic food systems.
  • Enhance the production and utilization of nutrient-rich aquatic species, including underutilized marine resources, through research, capacity building, and value chain development.
  • Foster cross-sectoral collaboration and policy advocacy to ensure that aquaculture growth supports public health, biodiversity, and socio-economic development.

Our Achievements

Over the past two decades, Aqualens and its collaborating researchers have successfully led and contributed to numerous national and international research projects that address critical challenges in nutrition-sensitive aquaculture, sustainable aquatic food systems, and blue economy development.

Nutrition-Sensitive Aquaculture & Food Security

Pioneering nutrition research, we've developed innovative fish and seaweed powders to combat malnutrition and improve women's health.

Feed & Farming Innovations

Developed and assessed novel, cost-effective aquaculture feeds for mud crabs and fish through major national and international research grants (e.g., BAS-USDA, EU-FP7, MoST).

Blue Economy & Marine Resource Diversification

Led projects enhancing the aquaculture value chain, from novel species assessment to post-harvest utilization and hatchery scaling.

Women Empowerment & Adolescent Health

Championed women's empowerment by linking their roles in aquaculture value chains to improved household and adolescent nutrition.

International Collaboration & Capacity Building

Secured multi-country research funding from prestigious institutions and coordinated collaborative projects to improve food systems and sustainable aquaculture trade.

Policy-Relevant Research & Technology Transfer

Conducted research on emerging aquaculture technologies, evaluated food safety risks, and led early studies on seasonal floodplain aquaculture, informing national policy.
