Feasibility Study of smoking in mid-costal zone of bangladesh

Abstract:

A study was conducted to evaluate the feasiblilty of fish and shrimp smoking in mid-constal zone of Bangladesh specially in Noakhall district. The fisheries resources, meteorological condition, geographical location & other natural resources of these regions are favorable for fish and shrimp smoking. But smoking is not practiced in these regions. Moreover a considerable amount of fish, shrimp & crab become spoiled, due to lack of proper storage facilities and logistic support. This problem becomes bigger during fishing seasons. So these areas were selected as the study area. For further study data were collected on availability and abundance of different fish & shrimp, availability and abundance of different tree species and on meteorological condition. The geographical location of this region was alt observed. Data were collected from different fishermen, fishing boat owners, fish traders and also from weather office as well as from DFO and UFO office. Some well prepared questionnaires were used for data collection and simple random sampling was used for sampling. Data were collected by conducting personal interviews. Final data were obtained after focus group discussion and cross check interviews. Microsoft excel software was used for data analysis. Research was completed in four months, (February- May).
